Sculpture - 270 (2025) - Street Art Memorials - My Father's Kitchen - Archive - Media - Studios - Contact
This sculpture is a memorial to the 270 Sheffield men estimated to have been killed in the first 10 minutes at the Battle of the Somme, France in 1916. They were volunteers in the Sheffield Pals battalion recruited for the First World War. That is arguably the worst 10 minutes in Sheffield's history. There are lots of reasons I made it but one was to make the tragic event more than a sentence in a history book and to communicate the enormity of it.
Thanks to Joe Mellors, Jen Leigh, Alex Gregory and Dave Norton for assisting me with the sculpture.
